Typing Test

Take a free typing test with live WPM, accuracy and consistency tracking. Pick a duration from 15 seconds to 10 minutes and start typing instantly — no sign-up required.

How this typing test works

Pick a duration and difficulty, then start typing the passage shown on screen. Every keystroke is checked as you type: correct characters turn one color, mistakes another, and a live WPM counter updates in real time so you can see your pace as it happens. When the timer ends (or you finish the passage), you get a full results screen — net WPM, accuracy, consistency, a speed graph, and a breakdown of the specific words and keys that slowed you down.

How WPM, accuracy and consistency are calculated

This test uses the same methodology as professional typing benchmarks:

  • Net WPM = (correct characters ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed, with uncorrected errors subtracted — the number that actually appears on your results screen.
  • Accuracy = correct keystrokes ÷ total keystrokes × 100.
  • Consistency = how little your WPM varied across the test, so two runs with the same average speed can still score differently if one was steady and the other came in bursts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my typing speed calculated?

Speed is shown as net WPM (words per minute), where one word equals five characters. Gross WPM is (characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes; net WPM subtracts uncorrected errors, so accuracy directly affects your score.

What does the accuracy percentage mean?

Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were correct on the first attempt: correct characters ÷ (correct + incorrect characters) × 100. It's tracked separately from WPM so you can see whether a fast run was also a clean one.

What is the consistency score?

Consistency measures how steady your pace was across the test, derived from the variation in your per-interval WPM. A high score means an even rhythm; a low one means bursts and stalls, often from hesitation or frequent corrections.

How long should a typing test be?

60 seconds is the standard length used by most benchmarks and is long enough to average out a slow start. Shorter 15–30 second runs are good warm-ups; 3–10 minute tests better reflect real, sustained typing.

Do I need an account to take the test?

No — the test runs fully as a guest and nothing leaves your browser unless you're signed in. A free account adds result history, a personal dashboard, and AI-personalized lessons that target your weak keys.

Does the typing test work on mobile?

You can access it through any modern mobile browser, but since the goal is to measure keyboard typing skill, results are most meaningful on a physical keyboard — a laptop or desktop is recommended for serious testing.

Why isn't my test registering keystrokes correctly?

This is usually caused by a browser extension intercepting keyboard input, or a slow connection. Try disabling extensions, refreshing, or switching to an updated browser (Chrome, Firefox or Edge).

Can I see my past results and progress?

Yes — once signed in, your full test history (WPM, accuracy, weak-key trends) is saved to your dashboard.
