Ai-TypingTest.com vs TypeRacer
One is a competition. The other is a measurement. They are not really substitutes.

Short answer
Use TypeRacer if you want to race other people; use Ai-TypingTest.com if you want to measure where you are and know what to practise next. These are genuinely different products that happen to share a keyboard. TypeRacer’s strength is live competition against real opponents on quotes from books and films. Ai-TypingTest.com is free with no signup, reports consistency alongside WPM and accuracy, and generates practice text from your own error history. Plenty of people use both.
Ai-TypingTest.com vs TypeRacer: feature comparison
| Feature | Ai-TypingTest.com | TypeRacer |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Free. No signup needed to take a test. | Free, with an optional paid tier that removes ads and adds features. |
| Core format | Timed solo tests, 15 seconds to 10 minutes, plus custom text. | Live races against other people, typing a fixed quote to the end. |
| Text | Original passages across difficulty levels, plus numbers, punctuation, code and exam formats. | Quotes from books, films, songs and user submissions. |
| Multiplayer | No live head-to-head racing. Solo tests with a global leaderboard. | This is the whole point — real-time races against real opponents. |
| Live metrics | Live WPM, accuracy and consistency, plus a second-by-second speed graph. | Live WPM and position in the race. |
| Error handling | You may continue past an error; net WPM subtracts uncorrected mistakes. | You must correct an error before continuing, which is a meaningfully different discipline. |

Choose Ai-TypingTest.com if…
- You want a clean measurement rather than a race — including a repeatable benchmark you can compare week to week.
- You are preparing for an employer typing assessment and need a 3, 5 or 10-minute run rather than a single quote.
- You want to know which specific keys are slowing you down, and get practice text built around them.
- You need a printable certificate for a job application, or a country-specific or government-exam format.
- You would rather not have ads or a rating you can lose.
Choose TypeRacer if…
- Competition is what motivates you. Racing a real person is a stronger pull than a personal best, and that is a legitimate reason to choose it.
- You enjoy typing quotes from books, films and songs rather than neutral practice prose.
- You want a long-term competitive rating and a community that has been active for well over a decade.
- You like reviewing race replays keystroke by keystroke.
Why the two scores will not match
People regularly find their TypeRacer WPM differs from their score here, and neither site is wrong. The difference comes from three things.
- Error handling. TypeRacer blocks you until a mistake is corrected. This site lets you continue and subtracts uncorrected errors from net WPM. Blocking produces a cleaner but slower run; continuing produces a faster but penalised one.
- Text type. Quotes are unevenly difficult — one with heavy punctuation, proper nouns or unusual capitalisation will cost you several WPM against neutral prose of the same length.
- Length. A race is however long the quote is. A timed test is a fixed duration. Comparing a short quote against a five-minute test is not a like-for-like comparison.
The practical answer is to track your trend on one platform rather than comparing absolute numbers across two. The score guide explains what moves the figure.
Racing is good practice, with one caveat
Competition is genuinely effective at producing volume — people race far more than they would drill. The caveat is that racing trains what you are already good at. It rewards your existing top speed and gives you no information about which reaches are weak.
If you are stuck at a plateau, more races will not move it; that is covered in why your typing speed plateaus at 60 WPM. A reasonable combination is to race for volume and motivation, and use the accuracy test and personalised lessons here for the targeted work.
What we do not have
To be straightforward about it: there is no live head-to-head racing on this site. There are typing games and a typing race against the clock, and a global leaderboard, but nothing that puts you in a lobby against three strangers in real time. If that is what you want, TypeRacer does it better than anyone and you should use TypeRacer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is TypeRacer or Ai-TypingTest.com better?
They do different things. TypeRacer is a live multiplayer racing game on quotes and is the better choice if competition motivates you. Ai-TypingTest.com is a measurement and practice tool with consistency tracking, timed formats up to ten minutes, and lessons generated from your own weak keys.
Why is my TypeRacer score different from my score here?
Mainly error handling. TypeRacer requires you to correct a mistake before continuing; this site lets you continue and subtracts uncorrected errors from net WPM. Quote difficulty and test length also vary, so compare trends on one platform rather than absolute numbers across two.
Does Ai-TypingTest.com have multiplayer racing?
Not live head-to-head racing against other people. There are typing games, a timed typing race and a global leaderboard, but if real-time racing is what you want, TypeRacer is the better tool.
Is TypeRacer free?
Yes, with ads on the free tier and an optional paid tier that removes them and adds features. Ai-TypingTest.com is free with no ads and no signup required to take a test.
